little birds

My friend Judy wanted something special to give her brother for his new baby, and we both collaborated on this design of a tree with 28 birds. Each bird represents one of her family members, with the new baby being #28.
I had a lot of fun making this, and it was a big hit at the baby shower!

more holiday spirit

I had this tree idea in my head and was inspired by this super deep red fabric called "Road To Marrakech" by Studio e fabrics. I didn't like the fabric i chose for the last tree, i thought the star didn't pop out as much.  Then the Denyse Schmidt blue really finished the whole thing for me. Red, Yellow and Blue is my all time most favorite color combination, and here it some how works for a Christmas tree.

quilting fail

i love doing hand-work, but i keep stabbing myself. At least the blood is on the back of the quilt!

Xmas wall Hanging

I wanted to make something small to give out as Xmas gifts this year involving white vintage buttons- so I came up with this little design.
It took me only one night to piece together and one night to sew the little buttons on!

I want to make a few more, I might applique the star on next time instead...

Tumbler Quilt

I made this quilt to tackle a few things that I always wanted to do:

a.) Use one of those cool looking "Jelly Roll" things they sell in craft stores
b) Make a quilt using a one block pattern
c) put together a project FAST so I can actually accomplish something!

So when i was playing with the jelly roll, i realized i can just cut the strips on an angle and make perfect little tumbler blocks!

sewing blocks

Tried to line up the strips on my design wall
In the end the blocks never lined up right....  but it was fun and fast to make, and looks very pretty on the bed!
Xmas lights- my makeshift quilt hanging system!

new blog!

New blog page!
This is a just for fun blog to use to post about all my current boring sewing projects.
I'm still quite new to quilting- so with each project I am learning something new! i love it!

I have never been one to follow patterns... so most of my stuff I am just making it up as i go along.
My love for quilts comes from my viewing quilting as 'painting with fabric'.

My goal for 2011 is to take as many quilt classes my pocketbook can allow. I just got laid off from work, so we'll see how much i can afford on Unemployment!
