‎"Can you screen share what's going on in your head please?"

I had no idea that i could possibly be so damn busy being unemployed.
Every day for the last 6 months have been completely packed full. The day I got laid off- I honestly thought, 'wow, i'm going to have so much time now!' and my days have just been so busy I feel i haven't had any 'down time' at all.

i'm not bragging- or complaining - i'm just amazed at how it's been the complete opposite of how i imagined.  The being completely broke part is exactly how I imagined it.

I have watched a lot of TV since i lost my job, which is not my usual thing, but when i am watching TV i am always doing something else at the same time. (like sewing! or ironing! or cleaning!)  i got to watch the royal wedding like 4 or 5 times. i also really enjoy watching the 4 o'clock, 5 o'clock and 6 pm news all in a row.  thing's you never get to do when you have a job.

in quilting news, I gave my quilt to Jill over the weekend.

She liked it a lot and the baby shower was so nice.
isn't she so darn cute?

Thank you Karina, if you are reading this, for the blog title. I am making you a quilt for your wall, just tell me what colors! I also think your idea of making a "print" of the Jill quilt is a neat idea! I am going to look into that. or even a painting/drawing of a quilt. i dunno. i'm going to work on that.
Me and Karina at the awesome Lykke Li show. Being short was not so fun at a concert!

Grimes opened for Lykke Li, and now she is my new favorite band.  I am sure James is happy that I am not listing to "Yolanda be cool" anymore.

finished!

I finished Jill's baby quilt today. My freelance work has kinda died down this  week so i finally had some dedicated time to sew. I had a lot of fun with this quilt and I kinda am going to be sad to see it go!  Whahhaahh!!!

I used a Central Park charm pack for the centers, some Jay McCarroll, Tina Givens, some Joanne crap, and scraps from my stash.
I love the brown with the dots- It's the SOFTEST fabric i have ever used- It's called Toy Poodle by Kinkame. LOVE IT.

Check out all the other colors it comes in: http://www.clothworks.com/collection.asp?ID=208

I also had a lot of fun with the back.

My absolute favorite part of quilting is the binding! It feels so good to be in the final stretch!

The little cat faces kill me.

I will post pictures later on from the baby shower.

not all baby quilts are created equal!

I have Donald Trump Hair.

I'm really excited that my childhood friend, Jill, is having a baby girl soon. She said she really likes a "pink and brown combo" - so i went out and bought all this...

I'm not feeling these fabrics at all....   Bleh.

I spent almost $70 on fabric that doesn't match. :-(  fail!

So I put together this:

so it looks like It's not going to be all pink...  I found some more brown, gray and orange.
if my sick cat cooperates, i will hopefully be going out for a nice afternoon sewing  with the quilt guild. :-D

Jill i love you!

exhausted

I'm exhausted. I have been surprisingly insanely busy for someone who is incredibly unemployed as myself. i admit i have NEVER ever watched so much TV in my LIFE- (but i think that has a lot to do with just recently getting a TV hooked up right next to my computer in my sewing room...)

on that note- mad props to Oprah for doing a show all about Veganism! WOW! i would really like to cut out animal products in my life- and this show is very inspirational! she has some chick on the show who is doing a good job convincing me not to eat animals.. http://www.kathyfreston.com

I don't eat beef or pork- but i do eat the very tasty chickens and turkeys and i would be much happier if i could just eat vegetables.

like my old friend Cliff says.. "She doesn't want to eat anything with lips"

...
Today we had some great sunshine so i was able to take some nice pictures of my blue "thing".

I really wanted  to enter this quilt challenge. I already had an idea to make an all blue quilt- so I was already doing some serious hoarding of blue fabric so this challenge was a great opportunity to for me to get this thing done!

I got to combine a few things on my "to-do-list" . I was happy to do the whole blue thing, plus I wanted to try a "mood" quilt like the beautiful ones done by the uber talented Sherri Lynn Wood. Visit her blog here. Her use of color is stunning.

So this was my first time sewing curves. it was not easy! AND it was my 1st time making continuous bias binding- and holy crap- that was really fun

Even with all the blue fabric I could afford- I still knew it was lacking some "values" so fortunately I stumbled upon this-

It was a little expensive for me-  but i am so glad i got it- i think it helped pull everything together.

SO it's done- i'm happy- ready to make another one.

new quilt lables

My Quilt Labels came in from Spoonflower.com this past weekend.
I made a pink and a blue design. I was very happy with the printing, but i thought the fabric was kinda thin.

Meh

I had a big quilting weekend. I went on a 3 day "Quilt Retreat" with my quilting store- The Little Shop.

It was very fun, and a wonderful retreat, but my mind was not focused on quilting, because i was mostly thinking about Japan.

I just could not feel good about making art this weekend knowing that so many people died an untimely horrific violent death.

I was looking forward to this retreat for so many weeks, and I had so many projects to work on. But the one project I wanted to finish was my Monochromatic quilt challenge project.

I wanted to finish it for my guild meeting on Tuesday, so i worked as hard as i could to get it done. It's still not done.

back to work.
